Beware of the new Instabot ransomware

hacking - Beware of the new Instabot ransomware

La hacking it is literally unleashed, even in times of pandemic coronavirus. The latest hacker creation is Instabot, a virus that encrypts users' files by requesting 0,14 Bitcoin (or $ 1,274) to unlock them. For those who pay within 72 hours there is a "generous" discount of 50%.

The discovery of SonicWall

Instabot discovered the experts at Sonicall, a company that fights against hacking. They sent a response communication to know what needs to be done to remedy the attack.
In the reply email, the hackers pointed to a tutorial which explains step by step how to register and buy Bitcoin on LocalBitcoin, recommending this platform as the easiest way to fix the block. They also added a list of alternative exchanges such as Binance, Coinbase, Paxful and others.

Be very careful

As usual, cyber-security houses have invited web users to navigate with caution. The attacks of this kind, in fact, are the the result of an absolutely reckless way of using the net by too many people. Which do not use any precautions and persist in practices that can lend a side to cybercriminals, opening the way for them to do damage.

A decalogue to keep in mind

It is precisely the companies in the sector that warn for example from advertising banners. In particular those contained in adult sites, very popular with users of all ages. As indeed you need to pay attention to certain content, starting from audio and video files or wallpaper: they are the tools preferred by pirates, precisely because of the appeal they manage to exercise.
But most of all, you need to be careful when using email, even when, apparently it seems sent by acquaintances. Furthermore, it is not uncommon for hackers to use the addresses and logos of companies that provide services stating that there are no payments and inviting them to click on a link, naturally a vehicle for malware.
The really important thing is that you always act only if you are sure of what you are doing. If you have doubts, it is better to avoid giving rise to actions that can cost you dearly.

The first ransomware in history

It should also be noted that ransomware is not a recent invention. The first of them, in fact, dates back to 1989, when it appeared "PC Cyborg", so named because the payments were directed to a phantom "PC Cyborg Corporation".
The malware blocked the functioning of the computer, justifying the hostile act through an alleged expiration of the license of an unspecified software. Realized by Joseph Popp, the request for a return to normal was $ 189. Its spread occurred during an AIDS conference, by means of infected floppy disks delivered to the participants. Of course, it was the insertion of the floppy disk that allowed the virus to install itself and encrypt the files.
The spread of "PC Cyborg" was very limited, as at the time personal computers were still limited in number and the Internet was a network for professionals only. Since then, however, a lot of water has flowed under the bridges and the situation has changed considerably.
