Ethereum, where is the migration to PoS?

The issue was addressed during a Reddit AMA session

At what point is the expected migration of Ethereum towards the Proof of Stake (PoS)? Despite the spasmodic wait that has arisen as a result of a series of announcements given in particular by Vitalik Buterin, it seems that the event is far from near. Moreover, as confirmed by what was declared on 17th November by the same co-founder of the project, together with other team members of the Ethereum Foundation (EF), in the course of a Ask Me Anything (AMA) session organized by Reddit. From which an attitude of considerable caution seems to emerge essentially.

Ethereum - Ethereum, at what point is the migration to PoS?

The statements made during the Reddit AMA

The Ethereum co-founder revealed during the session organized by Reddit that planned migration of Ethereum from Proof-of-Work (PoW) to Proof-of-Stake (PoS) is not expected to occur before November 2021.
It did so by answering the question of a user who had asked for explanations on the sharding area of blockchain of Ethereum and on the migration to the PoS. According to Buterin, in fact, the first will take place long before the second. And, should the process also accelerate in the near future, his advice would still be to test the result for a long time. In order to be able to give security to people, especially considering that these are changes to an ecosystem in which tens of billions of dollars are at stake.

What about the eWASM framework?

Users also queried Danny Ryan to learn about the fate of other components of Ethereum 2.0, starting from eWASM framework. It is a proposed redesign of the execution layer of Ethereum smart contracts, which promises to provide high-speed execution of the same. To which would be added interoperability in traditional programming languages such as C, C ++ and Rust and potential access for developers to a global community, simplifying their work.
Ryan's answer, however, has not just surprised the interlocutors. Indeed he revealed that eWASM is currently not a priority for the development of ETH2.

The words of Danny Ryan and Justin Drake

Ryan specifically stated that he is unsure whether eWASM will ever arrive on the mainnet. Indeed, the promised efficiency gains would be minimal compared to the current situation, insured by EVM. Which, moreover, is turning into a real blockchain standard.
Words that were later confirmed by Justin Drake, developer of Ethereum 2.0, who stated that eWASM would not be a priority at the moment. Adding that the research and optimization of the sharding would already be underway, although slowed down by the need to sample the available data.

Ethereum under attack?

Ultimately, a certain wait on the part of the Ethereum development group seems to have leaked from the Reddit AMA session. A prudence which however seems to clash with the strong acceleration given to the decentralized finance sector, in which the project is currently a point of reference, by some competitors.
Starting from that Polkadot which has been indicated by some as real Ethereum killer. A threat which, as time goes on, could become more and more concrete. With the result of forcing Buterin and companions to rush your work, so as not to leave them real prairies in which to run undisturbed.
